I've been thinking about them a lot lately, reasons that is. Specifically, my reasons in engaging in various forms of social media: blogging, chatting, tweeting, tumbling, etc. And given the crowd I find myself following, my reasons are vastly different from the masses.
I do this because I want to. It's that simple.
I started blogging five years ago because I saw others were doing it, and I knew I could as well, so I started this site. I wanted to share bits of myself, to let people know about my thoughts, my feelings, my experiences. I've always been a pretty open and honest person, so this desire to share isn't new. So, once I had been blogging for a while, I decided to start memberships for my blog on Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr.
I've been somewhat active on those sites. I've enjoyed reaching out to more people and learning from them as well. I've also enjoyed attending meet-ups, conferences and other events. At these functions, I've learned so much, not just about the world of social networking.
Now, many of the people I've met, got into blogging with specific goals in mind. They wanted to build a writing career and publish books. Or they wanted to display their journalism skills and land a job. They want attention, they want a lot of followers. You get the idea. And that has never been me.
Don't get me wrong, I am an attention-whore, but I don't post, tweet, tumble to gain followers. I do what I do because I want to, not just to manipulate the masses.
Don't worry, no matter how few - or how many - readers and followers I have, I appreciate every single one of you...so keep coming back cuz you'll never know what you'll find!
